Doing home improvement? If you’re shopping from Home Depot, you’re in luck because their return policy is one of the best around. We break down what you need to know.
Home Depot’s General Return Policy
For the most part, if your Home Depot purchase is new or unopened, it can be returned within 180 days of purchase, unless noted in their Return Policy Exceptions (see below).
However, if you use a Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge, or Home Depot Commercial Account, to pay for the purchase, then you have 365 days from the purchase date to receive a full refund (again, unless noted in the Return Policy Exceptions.
If you have a receipt, the return will be exchanged, refunded in cash, credited to your account or refunded via The Home Depot store credit (“Store Credit”). Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment (whether that is credit card, PayPal, etc.), unless noted in their Return Policy Exceptions. Returns for purchases made with a gift card or a Store Credit will be refunded as a Store Credit.
What if I lost my Home Depot receipt?
If you’re missing the receipt from your purchase, don’t worry. The Home Depot may still be able to locate the purchase in their system. Receipts for purchases made with a credit or debit card or by check may be located in their system within 30 days of purchase. And for purchases made with The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, The Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge, or The Home Depot Commercial Account, receipts may be located in their system within 365 days of purchase.
If you paid with a credit or debit card, a Home Depot associate should be able to look up your purchase in the system for up to 90 days.
If you paid with cash, you can most likely receive store credit with a Home Depot gift card.
Just make sure you bring a government-issued photo ID with you when you go to make the refund or return, as they will need to prove your identity to track the purchase in their system.
